Dishers!

Today I was thinking about my dishers.  I miss my kitchen while I'm at work all day, you know?

No, I don't like ice cream that much.  Okay, maybe I do like ice cream that much.  That's not the point, though; I don't use these for ice cream.

Dishers are great for portioning things out - like cookie dough, or muffin/cupcake batter, or truffles.  They also work for meatballs, rice balls (suppli, arancini), burgers, or croquettes.  I wouldn't say that they are an absolute kitchen necessity, but having them makes cooking and baking even more fun.

As for ice cream?  I leave that to my trusty spade.

  1. Love the new look!!! Where do you get your dishers? Is there a brand you recommend? Mine always seem to break down so easily.

  2. I noticed that you used these for your latest batch of cookies, didn't you? I thought that I might try it next time—I like the way they come out the same size and then you can stack 'em with . . . ice cream!

  3. Yes, I used the #24 for those cookies. They do come out all roughly the same size ... and round, too! :o) Ice cream sandwiches! I didn't think of that last week! I'm going to have to remember for next time.

I think restaurant supply stores are the best places to get sturdy dishers. I've had mine for years and they're still going strong. Vollrath is a good brand - they have them in all sizes. I've heard that Oxo is good too, but I think Oxo just has S, M, and L sizes.

  4. Cookie, what's your favorite brand/type of spade for ice-cream?

  5. KitchenAid! Extremely durable, and good-looking too.

  6. I was going to ask about brands since the ones I get are never sturdy enough ....

  7. That always seems to be the problem with ice cream scoops ... one attempt on very-frozen ice cream and they snap. That's why I use a spade. And for things like cookie dough, I've been happy with Vollrath.

  9. One day when I grow up I can afford to have all these toys in my kitchen. But until then, I have to keep dreaming and live in a tiny box. Can you write a post about your kitchen essentials?
